Our Commitments

Performance and Responsibility

The Michelin Group’s philosophy has always been to anticipate the major challenges so as to offer the best service and the best quality. Reducing our environmental footprint is one of today’s great challenges for the Group. To show proof of this commitment, we created a charter in 2002 which specifies the concentration of our actions aimed at reducing our ecological footprint. As Edouard Michelin said in 2001: “Michelin must promote what is now clearly inseparable: mobility and respect for the environment”. This is why our policy of innovation focuses on the impact of environmental performance and mobility.

Reduction of the Environmental Footprint

MEF

In 2005, Michelin created the MEF (Michelin Environmental Footprint), a standard for managing the performance of our industrial sites. The MEF takes in several components, including the reduction of water and energy consumption, the reduction of emissions of carbon dioxide and volatile organic compounds and the reduction of scrap. Since 2005, we have reduced our environmental footprint by 33%, and our objective for the years to come is to intensify this approach.

For Sustainable Mobility

In a world in which the mobility of people and materials becomes more important every day, it is essential to see innovation as a long-term commitment. In inventing the radial tire in 1946, and then the low rolling resistance tire in 1992, the Michelin Group enabled vehicles to achieve a considerable reduction in the amount of energy needed to move them. Our commitment to sustainable mobility does not stop there. Every year since 1998, we’ve organized the Challenge Bibendum, an international event bringing together companies, experts, journalists and decision-makers to put their heads together and think about the major issues of sustainable mobility.
