Recovery of scrap tyre products at the end of their service life
Worn tyre recovery
To respond to growing environmental demands, legislation on the subject of the collection and recycling of worn tyres is becoming increasingly stringent in most countries in the world.
In Europe for example, dumping worn-out tyres has been prohibited since 2006 (DE 1999/31/CE). Each of the 27 members states of the EU are therefore bound to apply this directive.
Elsewhere in the world, the gradual emergence of national regulations leads to the establishment of recycling facilities (e.g. Brazil since 2010). Some countries, notably the United States, have even implemented resorption programmes for worn tyres dumped in landfill sites.
Wherever possible, Michelin support the establishment of organisations making tyre manufacturers responsible for setting up management of the worn tyre recycling facility.
